When we went to the U.S. in May and June this year, we were guest missionaries at Christ Apostolic Church in Portland, TN. In one of our services there, as offering was being received by Pastor Barnes, a sweet grandmother brought up her little granddaughter to give in the offering plate. This beautiful little girl could not have been any more than 4 or 5 years old. After they gave their offering, her grandmother came over to me and told me that after seeing the pictures we had shown that night and hearing us talk about all the poverty here in Ecuador and how many do without the bare necessities, that the little girl took off her own pair of sandals that she’d worn to church that night and put them in the offering plate. She wanted me to give those sandals to a child here in Ecuador who had no shoes, she said. I was so moved by such compassion and love, especially by a child!! Her sweet gesture moved me to tears!
So I made sure I searched out a beautiful little girl who had dire need, and to whom those sandals would be a tremendous blessing. This is Eslendy (from our Puyupungo church) receiving that blessing, a pair of name brand sandals nearly brand new!!
I don’t remember the name of the child from the U.S. who gave these shoes, but I’d like to give her honor today, for obeying the Lord and for giving Eslendy ‘shoes on her feet’, so she, too, now can sing, “Thank you Lord for your blessings on me!”
