These past few days it has been literally storming here in the Amazon! Rains have been torrential, causing flash floods. Well, Thursday night was the same, and we have service in Puyo on Thursday nights. Our people either walk (which was not a good option for this particular night) or come by bus to get here. However, the bus arrives 4 blocks from where we live, so they’d still have to walk in the storm to arrive.
As I was getting ready, the rain was falling so hard, just a-pouring outside, and the lightning was cracking and glowing up the sky for miles, and the thunder was incredibly loud, just rolling in the skies! I thought surely we’d only have a handful, if any at all, for service, but that was ok, I wanted them to be safe more than anything! And as I’m thinking this and getting ready, all of a sudden, I hear someone call out, “Buenas noches, Hermana Susana”. And when I look out my front door, I can’t believe my eyes!! There in the middle of this storm, getting soaking wet, and lightning striking all around them, were 2 precious little girls that I love, Janeth (10) and Monica (8), and with them, they had their small toddler niece, Brittany. They were completely drenched!! I told them the front gate was already open, to hurry on in the church, and I ran to meet them downstairs.
I was very happy to see them in church that night and so enjoyed my time with them, as we waited for others to get here. But I held back the tears that a mom would allow her children out in a storm like that! So, I gave them lots of hugs and tons of love that night, and they were so glad to be here! And yes, we had a good ole Holy Ghost time, as they cried and prayed and sang in the presence of the Lord! They didn’t care it was raining; they didn’t mind that they were wet; they didn’t even notice the lightning. The rain stopped others from coming, but not them! They were just so glad to be in the House of the Lord!
