David Livingstone said, “For my own part, I have never ceased to rejoice that God has appointed me to such an office. People talk of the sacrifice I have made in spending so much of my life in Africa. Is that a sacrifice which brings its own blest reward in healthful activity, the consciousness of doing good, peace of mind, and a bright hope of a glorious destiny hereafter? Away with the word sacrifice. Say rather it is a privilege. Anxiety, sickness, suffering, or danger, now and then, with a foregoing of the common conveniences and charities of this life, may make us pause, and cause the spirit to waiver, and the soul to sink; but let this only be for a moment. All these are nothing when compared with the glory which shall be revealed in and for us. I never made a sacrifice.”
This is one of my very favorite quotes because I feel the same way. It is truly a privilege to get to be here in Ecuador, to be the one who takes the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ to souls who have never known. Yes, there are often difficult situations, dangers, threats, many things that I am not able to share with you, so you don’t always see or know all that is happening here. And those things do sometimes cause the heart to sink and bring many tears, but it’s only for a moment. Because every time I see a soul weeping in the altar of repentance, or I see a prayer answered, I see a need provided, I see people set free from demon possession, I see miracle healings take place….those are the occasions I want to share with you! That is what brings me so much joy and that is the part in which to revel and rejoice! Sacrifice? Away with the word! It is such a privilege and honor to serve the Lord in Ecuador reaching the beautiful people of the Amazon for the name of Jesus and His glory! I love being a missionary!!!
