I am very Blessed to have running water and electricity at my home. Unfortunately, many do not. However, for those of us who do have such conveniences, they are currently being rationed. Some days I will have water and electricity for a few hours; some days none at all.
So, after a beautiful service at Talin church on Saturday with no electricity, I came home to the same. No lights, no water. But one knows to be ready at all times, so I just prepared my sermon for Sunday morning service by glowing candlelight. And, oh! What a word God spoke as He ministered to me in the light of that melting wax, and how His glory filled my home!
Yes, I love modern luxuries as much as anyone. But what I also know from being a Missionary all these years is that it doesn’t take any of that to work for the Lord. We have had some of the most powerful services in pure darkness as night crept in in our jungle churches that have no electricity. We have praised and gotten lost in God’s presence as we sang with no instruments but our own voices! And then when we did have a tambourine, we have danced and worshipped with all our might to the Lord with only its jingle. People have received the Holy Ghost and demons have been cast out in hot sweaty wooden churches with no air conditioning. We have sat on hard wooden benches with no back support and walked on mud floors teaching the Word of God. Oh how beautiful it has been!!
A popular quote says, “Do all you can, with what you have, wherever you are.” It really is that simple….just be willing.‘Cause most importantly, many of those things that we deem as ‘needs’ make no difference to the Lord anyway. He is going to move, He is going to have a people, He is going to do great things no matter the circumstances!! What an honor it is to be a jungle missionary!
