Hey, it’s Ann again! We’re over a week into our stay with Susan, so thought I’d share a little more insight into our ‘Mission’ trip thus far.
First week was a bit slow going as Aaron Paul, Mom, Dad and myself all got the flu. We then passed it on to Susan. Thankfully we are all recovering and going strong now.
I am covered in bug bites. They are red, painful, itchy, swollen. Dr diagnosis is they’re mosquito bites with a side of allergic reaction. The bugs here think repellent is a dessert lol! It doesn’t faze them. I am absolutely fine, tho. But to hear me tell it, I was attacked by killer bees.
On Sunday before church while opening and closing the gate for Susan to park the truck, I was chased all over the parking lot by a big huge Watusa (jungle rat, really). Literally, he was trying to attack me. I finally just ran out the gate and down the road, screaming. From my perspective, it was about a 5K distance that I ran. Probably more like half a block, actually, until Susan caught up with me, laughing hysterically.
I still wake up to ‘guests’ every single morning in Susan’s house; lizards, frogs, mice, bats, etc.
At one point the electricity to the entire country of Ecuador was shut off and we were not allowed out of doors for safety reasons. Thankfully, it has been restored and all is well.
Today we were stopped and searched at a police roadblock.
But did I mention the AMAZING services, in-home Bible studies, praying for the sick (literally ‘saw’ the fever leave the ladies body as Susan laid hands on her), rice deliveries, food and clothing distributions and so much more that we have been Blessed to be a part of?! What a very humbling experience to be able to shadow such an incredible servant of the Lord for just a short time as she does what she loves so much, and He works mightily, honoring her obedience
I am admittedly a ‘terrible’ visitor. I am definitely NOT cut out for the jungle Missionary life. But it is absolutely the most amazing experience in the entire world! I always say that every Christian needs to go on at least one mission trip to a third world country. It will change your life…..IF you can survive it!
